The Super Mario

The Super Mario

Well, it was bound to happen. Here in Costa Rica lots of local neighborhood supermarkets are called “Super X,” with X being either the business name, or if the owners are less imaginative, their own names (as in Super Carlos). It was only a matter of time until someone by the name of Mario started a supermarket. I wonder if it sells plumbing supplies?

Welcome to Web 2.0

Well I finally caught up to the 21st century and installed a blog on this site. Keep posted for random thoughts, links and postings as is usual for Yet Another Blog.

About Me

First off, my name is Jeffrey Alami (which explains this sweet 5-letter dot-com domain I registered a long time ago). I manage the operations for RX Cash Rewards, a network of health product stores that sell supplements (like Noni) and basic medications through an affiliate marketing network.

I’m originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where I obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. The mechanical stuff helps a little when I try to find my way around the motors and suspensions of the vehicles I drive (currently a 1990 Suzuki Samurai JL with a lift and swapped in 1.6L Sidekick/Tracker motor), but my skills really lie in LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP), e-commerce, and Internet marketing.

I was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Linux.com back in 1999-2000, and been using Linux since 1994 when Slackware was the hottest thing around (glad to see they’re still releasing new versions). I also wrote for several online and print publications back then, including the Linux Journal. Now I use both Linux and Mac OS X.

I moved to Costa Rica in May of 2002 to pursue new opportunities, and have stayed here since. There’s nothing like moving to a foreign country with a new language and different culture to learn more about yourself.
