Here’s a little gem of an article which shows how environmentalist events tend to do more harm than good… at worst they contribute nothing to actually helping the environment. It’s amazing how much disregard for nature there is at these events intended to, you know… protect nature.

Reminds me of all the fossil fuels that had to be used to power Live Earth. Not to mention that a rock concert won’t change the global warming (man-made? Wait, climate change? Didn’t it just snow in Vancouver in April?) issue anyway.

Well, the Javabot is less of a coffee machine and more a completely automated coffeehouse. I can see this technology taking off in the near future as labor costs go up… especially in a cool robotic place like Japan. Of course when this robot decides to turn on its masters it’ll have a large supply of scalding hot coffee ready to pour on the poor humans.

With all the research I do on alternative energy technology I’m surprised I haven’t heard much about this form of power yet. Yes, it’s solar, but instead of converting light directly into electricity with photovoltaic cells — which is fairly expensive, intermittent, and without a viable energy storage solution — this age-old solution (in fact, thousands of years old) concentrates solar power into heat which can be used to run a turbine. Can’t wait to set one up at home!
